This is a view from the entrance of my house
This is my kitchen. You can see my homemade curtains. I had a carpenter in town custom make that bar with shelving behind it. Literally, I drew it on a piece of paper and said, “Make this.” In front of the bar you can see my two kitchen appliances. To the left is my gas stove. There is a single burner on top that I can set a pot on. It works quite well. To the right is an African Fridge a.k.a. clay pot. If you fill the bottom with sand and then fill it with water, it keeps items cold. It also works quite well. No electricity needed. You can see a sack under the table from the supermarket in town. It is called Mama Watoto, which means the mother of children. Strange, I know.
This is where I chill. I made those seat covers from a bed sheet I bought in Nakumatt. I also carried that rug home on a matatu, which was fun. I bought some bomb speakers in Nairobi, so I jam a lot to music by myself. That’s my life.
In the back is another bedroom, but I currently use it as a storage room. But there’s a bed with your name on it.

This is my lovely bedroom. I had the carpenter custom make that dresser too. You can see the mosquito net which is my lifesaver, seriously.

You can see my homemade curtains once again. And yes, that is my underwear hanging from the rope. It is improper to hang it outside, so that’s how you dry your underwear here. Believe it.
I know what you may be thinking. In America, this bathroom would be disgusting. But here, this is the most luxurious bathroom in all of Kenya. We’ve got running water, a flushing toilet, and behind the divider is a running shower. The water is always cold, but sometimes you just don’t care.
And last but not least, here is an outside look at my house! It is a beautiful place with an awesome wraparound porch, which I use daily for washing clothes, dishes, and just to chill. It is located on a church compound, so it is extremely safe. Sometimes goats and ducks are walking around on my porch, but I just make loud noises and they freak out and run away. That is mostly what I do in my spare time.

I’m loving the new pad and it’s not too hard to imagine your chasing ducks with loud noises. Nope, not at all.
Paige, I’m coming to visit….soon
I am so coming to visit you in your sweet new house!
These pictures are awesome! I always wondered what it looked like living there, or just generally any place but America, where does the water come from? does everyone have running water? and same with the electricity? Also on a more important note, what are you stocking your bar with?
