The Hill of Vision

Last weekend I went exploring with Lauren in her village of Kaimosi, which is on the road to Kaphsabet. We found the Hill of Vision, which is a lookout point over the Kakamega Rainforest. Basically it was at the top of the world.

Not a bad view, I'd say.

From the top of the cliff, we saw something that caught our eye. I can’t remember if it was Pochahantas or some movie like that, but there was a ridiculous tree that had special powers. Well, I found that tree.

We saw some small boys down near the tree so we decided to approach. We asked them a few questions and found out that they lived in the area. We asked them if they have climbed the tree, and they said yes, it was possible but not advised, and they did not say why. They led us as close to the tree as possible, but they refused to go further because “they would go mad.” i learned that under this tree is where the boys go when they are going through the circumcision ceremonies. Spells are cast under this tree to prohibit spectators, and even though the ceremonies have ended for the season, the boys were too nervous to go further. But of course, my friend Lauren decided to go explore.

After she left, the boys were talking amongst themselves and sighing, saying, “Ahh! She will go mad.” We tried to watch as she was down there, but the brush was covering her completely.

Shocked to see that she came back okay.

When she finally came back, they seemed very anxious to know if anything occurred, but they reserved themselves from asking. We thanked the boys for showing us the way and returned home.
